"Jewish Life Today: Three Cities, Three Lives, Three Voices"
Schoolgirls from Görlitz win the Leo Trepp School Prize
"Jewish Life Today: Three Cities, Three Lives, Three Voices." Under this title, four pupils – Veronika Dąbrowska, Aaliyah Pfeiffer, Nina Langner and Sophia Reich – from the Augustum-Annen Gymnasium in Görlitz produced an issue of the fictional newspaper "Jüdische Moderne".
Across six densely printed pages, they recount Jewish life in Görlitz, Paris and Vienna, offer insights into local Jewish history, introduce figures such as Lauren Leiderman, who has been researching Jewish family histories in Görlitz for years, and recount the stories of Jewish women such as Henriette Ephraim from Görlitz and Else Feldmann from Vienna.
The award jury was impressed by the diversity of the topics covered and awarded the project first prize in this year’s Leo Trepp School Prize. The prizes were presented at the Saxon State Parliament on 16 June. The laudatory speech was given by Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria.

Pupils at the F.A. Brockhaus Gymnasium in Leipzig are putting together an exhibition about the cantor and music teacher Samuel Lampel. Their curiosity was piqued by Samuel-Lampe-Straße, the street adjacent to the school. The exhibition will be on display at the Leipzig School Museum in the summer of 2026. A class at the Ruth-Pfau School in Leipzig produced a beautifully designed leaflet introducing the trendsetters Charlotte Charlaque and Toni Ebel, who lived in Berlin in the 1930s and were among the first to undergo gender-affirming surgery. Here we have published the brochure.
