Embark on a journey through time at one of the most significant monuments to Jewish culture in Saxony. On a guided tour of today’s Kulturforum, you will discover the extraordinary architecture and impressive interior of the former New Synagogue – one of the few synagogue buildings in Germany to have survived the Night of Broken Glass in 1938 largely unscathed. The guided tour recounts the synagogue’s origins, its turbulent history during the Nazi era, and its extensive restoration and reopening as the Kulturforum in 2021.
At the same time, it offers insights into Jewish life in Görlitz – from the community’s beginnings through to its destruction and today’s culture of remembrance. Another highlight of the tour is the exhibition ‘Mischpacha. Family Stories from Görlitz’, which recounts the fate of the town’s Jewish families through moving biographies. In this way, the synagogue comes to life as a place of history, encounter and cultural exchange.
The guided tour takes place every Thursday.

Hear moving family stories, see the most beautiful dome between Dresden and Wrocław (Breslau), follow the paths of the history of the Görlitz Jews between 1840 and 1945. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 pm, the team of the cultural forum invites you to a public guided tour. Guided tours can also be booked individually on all other days.
The Görlitz Synagogue Cultural Forum is also available to companies and institutions as a special event location.
