Accompanied by tour guide Karin Meisel, we explore the legacy of Jewish entrepreneurs on the Kaßberg. Illustrious names such as Sigmund Goeritz and Oscar von Kohorn serve as a reminder of the thriving businesses that helped shape Chemnitz’s industrial history for over half a century.
The tour is complemented by the special exhibition “Traces of Success: Jewish Entrepreneurs in Chemnitz” at the Chemnitz Industrial Museum, which can be visited afterwards.
About the organiser
The Chemnitz Industrial Museum offers a journey through 220 years of Saxon industrial history. Numerous exhibits and working machines illustrate how much Saxony has changed from the beginnings of industrialisation to the present day.
Where iron casting and mechanical engineering once dominated people's lives, a restored museum complex now bears witness to the successful conversion of a listed industrial site. In the factory hall built in 1907 by Hermann and Alfred Escher, the Chemnitz Industrial Museum presents a permanent exhibition on the industrial history of Saxony.
Special highlights include the textile street and numerous machines in action, from the historic transmission workshop to modern industrial robots. Changing special exhibitions delve deeper into individual aspects of industrial culture, and numerous events and an extensive range of museum educational activities round off the programme.
