Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz – Schloßbergmuseum
The Chemnitz Museum of City History
The Schloßbergmuseum in Chemnitz is the city's museum for urban history and is located in one of the most beautiful monastery and castle complexes in Saxony. The permanent exhibitions show objects from the time the city was founded in the 12th century to the 20th century, including paintings, sculptures, historical textiles, jewellery, furniture and everyday objects. Particularly noteworthy is the Gothic Sculpture in Saxony collection with important works of late medieval sculpture. One highlight is the Holy Sepulchre from St Jakobi's Church (around 1480-1520), an elaborately carved shrine depicting the Passion and Resurrection of Christ. The presentations are complemented by changing special and themed exhibitions on regional cultural and art history.
