Saxon Wind Philharmonic Orchestra
The Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie is still the only German concert and theatre orchestra with a symphonic wind section.
It was founded in 1950 under the name Rundfunk-Blasorchester Leipzig and worked for the radio station in Leipzig for a total of 41 years. The musical work in the radio and recording studios is still an important indicator of the high artistic quality today.
In order to emphasise its artistic quality and symphonic orientation, the orchestra has been known as the Saxon Wind Philharmonic Orchestra since 2010.
The Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie is characterised by its very own multi-faceted sound spectrum. Both contemporary original compositions and transcriptions of masterpieces from music history form the repertoire. Symphonic chamber music can also be performed in the concert halls by the various ensembles of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic, from wind quintets to serenade ensembles.
In addition to concert series in the Leipzig cultural region (Leipzig district and North Saxony district), the Saxon Wind Philharmonic is a much sought-after guest orchestra throughout Germany and abroad. During its touring activities, the orchestra has visited many countries in Europe and overseas, where it has taken part in international music festivals and performed in renowned concert halls.
Since 1995, the orchestra has been entrusted with new tasks for the cultivation, promotion and development of musical life in the Free State of Saxony. In addition to numerous concert series in the region around Leipzig, the ensemble founded the German Wind Academy, Germany's outstanding study centre for amateur and professional wind players and conductors.
