Kaffee Kleppel (Brühl 24)
Offices of the Jewish Community of Karl-Marx-Stadt
The existing community rooms, located in a former office building, were becoming increasingly inadequate for sustaining a dignified community life. In March 1953, a membership meeting was held there for the very last time. In July 1953, the community relocated its administrative offices to "Kaffee Kleppel" at Brühl 24, henceforth utilizing the café's function room.
Various tasks had to be carried out in this space. The Torah scrolls used for worship services were kept in a cabinet. A partitioned-off area served as an office, where Marianne Grunert handled the community's administrative work. Community events and social gatherings continued to be held in this room until January 1961.
