Eva Menasse
In Conversation with Nirit Sommerfeld
CAFÉ JULIUS IM SCHOCKEN
Stefan-Heym-Platz 1
09111 Chemnitz
Eva Menasse, born in Vienna, award-winning writer and journalist, co-founder of PEN Berlin and regular guest on the literary programme Literarisches Quartett, moved to Berlin over 20 years ago. She says that Germany seemed much more enlightened than her home country when it came to "coming to terms with the past". On the Golden Sofa, she wants to talk above all about the lessons learned from the past – and how, in her view, this very past is being exploited and serves more as a form of German navel-gazing than as a genuine interest in Jews, Israelis or even Palestinians.
Reserve tickets at the café counter or via WhatsApp/telephone: 0176 – 61 09 19 65 or by email to reservierung@julius-im-schocken.de.

About the organiser
ANTONPLATZ e.V. is an association that celebrates "Never again! Nowhere! Against no one!" through art and culture, remembrance and learning. One of our projects in 2026 is the discussion series "Tacheles – Conversations on the Golden Sofa". Here, a wide variety of Jewish people, most of them critics of Israeli government policy, have their say and talk about their real lives in Germany today.
