Workshop offered by ConAct for youth and education professionals, in cooperation with the Ausländerrat Dresden e.V. and the project “ReflAct – Supporting Associations in Dealing with Anti-Semitism” run by Kulturbüro Dresden e.V.
The terrorist attacks by Hamas on the Israeli civilian population on 7 October 2023 and the resulting war in and around Israel are also having an impact in Germany. The Middle East conflict, already a challenging topic for youth and education work, has thus become even more topical. Discussions often give rise to distorted portrayals of the Middle East conflict, ranging all the way to anti-Semitic arguments. At the same time, verbal and physical attacks on Jewish people in Germany have increased significantly since 7 October. Youth and education workers face the challenge of responding appropriately to these situations.
Contents
The workshop provides a space to…
… impart fundamental knowledge regarding Israel-related antisemitism—currently one of the most widespread manifestations of antisemitism.
… introduce methodological approaches to antisemitism prevention—including approaches for addressing the Middle East conflict from multiple perspectives.
… engage with voices from Israel that offer insights into the scale of the attacks of October 7, 2023, and their consequences for Israeli society.
… exchange views on current challenges in daily educational practice and discuss potential courses of action.
To this end, the workshop utilizes methods drawn from a collection of resources designed for antisemitism-sensitive educational and encounter work. This professional development training is aimed at practitioners in the fields of youth work and education, as well as students of social work.
The workshop is facilitated by speakers from the ConAct project "Sichtbar Handeln! Umgehen mit Antisemitismus in Jugend- und Bildungsarbeit" (Acting Visibly! Addressing Antisemitism in Youth and Educational Work), and is organized in cooperation with the Specialist Unit for Migration in the Context of Youth Welfare at the Ausländerrat Dresden e. V., as well as the project "ReflAct – Unterstützung von Vereinen im Umgang mit Antisemitismus" (ReflAct – Supporting Associations in Addressing Antisemitism) run by the Kulturbüro Dresden e. V.

The project "Sichtbar Handeln! Umgehen mit Antisemitismus in Jugend- und Bildungsarbeit" is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. It forms part of the ongoing collaboration between ConAct—the Coordination Center for German-Israeli Youth Exchange—and the Israel Youth Exchange Authority. Within this framework, the project has been continuously implemented since 2020 by the Council of Youth Movements in Israel and ConAct.
